Dale King: Today I'm interviewing the brilliant young founders of YoungEntrepreneur.com, Adam & Matthew Toren.
Hello guys, how are you?
Adam & Matthew: Doing great! Thanks Dale.
Dale King: Would you mind explaining to my readers exactly what it is that you do?
Adam & Matthew: We would describe ourselves as Entrepreneurial Enthusiasts! We have been told that we truly epitomize the entrepreneurial
spirit. We have many teaching and research interests including Marketing,
Business development, Entrepreneurial emergence, Entrepreneurial strategy management, Business growth techniques, Innovation and new venture creation.
One of our passions and specialties are improving profitability of
under-performing businesses with a unique and 'bottom line' program. We
have bought several under performing companies in the past and overhauled the marketing, branding and infrastructure and usually sell the company within the first year once it is operating effectively, efficiently and turning a profit.
Dale King: Guys, tell my readers how and when YoungEntrepreneur.com came about..
Adam & Matthew: Back in 1997 & 98 we were volunteering some of our time to the Junior Achievement Association and going into the grade 11 and 12 classes in various highschools and helping the kids learn more about the real world of Entrepreneurship. One of the main questions that was always asked was: Where can we go to network with like-minded individuals and get answers to our questions?
We could never give them a great answer. So, in late 1998 we set out to
create what has now become the largest social networking Entrepreneurship forum online which is: http://www.YoungEntrepreneur.com
Approaching 40,000 members and 170,000 posts we are working on building upon this vibrant community and have plans to add several new tools, solutions and support for our growing network of members.
Dale King: Being a member of your forum myself, I can say from first-hand experience that you've built an outstanding community with http://YoungEntrepreneur.com
Adam & Matthew: Thanks you Dale.
Dale King: Some Internet Marketing experts advise newbies to
steer clear of certains areas of Internet Marketing, like selling e-books
on how to make money, advertising services, SEO services, copywriting, etc., because those particular niches are deemed to be "too competitive." Do you agree with that assessment?
Adam & Matthew: We feel that there is always going to be room for a new and improved e-book on SEO techniques or making money online as long as the e-book helps create results for the readers. If they are research based and cutting edge techniques then you should have no problem spreading the word about your findings!
Dale King: How is internet marketing different now, as opposed to when you first got started online?
Adam & Matthew: Internet marketing seems to be changing and updating every month! We are always hearing of new techniques and strategies to boost your organic search results. Back in the late 90s, everyone seemed to focus more on the look of your site and there was a lot of Flash sites being built (which don't seem to be very favorable nowadays with SEO). Now its about creating niche specific content that is fresh and unique which gives your visitors a reason to keep coming back!
Building relationships with links from other networks, websites and
organizations seems to really help your organic SEO standings these days.
Dale King: I couldn't agree more. How important has goal-setting been to your overall success?
Adam & Matthew: Goal-Setting has been something that we have always believed in. The key is setting realistic goals with detailed timelines and milestones.Rewarding yourself for meeting or exceeding goals has always been something we have done!
Dale King: How important has reading been to your overall success?
Adam & Matthew: We have recently been reading a lot of blogs these days which always offer good insight and techniques on various business strategies. We have read a handful of books during the past years but recently been focusing on completing our first book which will go to press this summer! Finally!
Dale King: Good luck with the new book! In your opinion, what technology has changed internet marketing the most over the last 5 years?
Adam & Matthew: This would have to be the number of SEO companies out there now that have the teams, resources, know how and savvy to help with your online marketing.
The fact that google has a stronghold on being the number one search
engine now has really made them the focus for all of these SEO companies. Studying the algorithms and the trends of google has been the focus of so many technology companies these days.
Dale King: What new technology do you see changing internet marketing over the next 5 years?
Adam & Matthew: Internet marketers will continue to focus on the fact that so many of us have hand-held devices which will mean a lot of the mobile media marketing will become a lot more relevant and part of our daily lives.
Dale King: What person or persons have influenced you the most in your
lifetime, and how?
Adam & Matthew: Good question. Both Matthew and I have really been able to understand each others strengths and weaknesses which has enabled us to continue to grow our excellent business partnership. Identifying each others talents in the beginning was extremely important on who handles what in our companies and has led us to influencing each other in so many positives ways. We are truly the epitome of self-made and self-taught and yes, we have learned A LOT from our mistakes and accomplishments.
Dale King: If you could give my readers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Adam & Matthew: Choose your business partners very wisely and always carve out a thorough plan to ensure you have covered all of your bases and remember: Procrastination is the thief of fortune! So…GET STARTED!
Dale King: That's great advice. Thank you very much, guys! You did a great job answering my questions. I appreciate you taking the time to do this interview.
Adam & Matthew: Thank you Dale. Keep supplying your readers with your excellent assistance and your very helpful content!
