Why You're Missing Out on A Way to Get Free Visitors If You Aren't Doing This.
Today's tip starts with my own shocking secret.
I hate - *HATE* listening to audio online. I'd rather pay to download a transcript. Most of the time when I'm posting on the road I'm in some hotel where I'm lucky I can get online, let alone listen to an audio. Plus, I'm a really print-oriented person.
But. I Love to talk. Get me going and you just can't shut me up.
Here's another confession : I make and record my own poetry CD's on my computer.
The biggest shocker is that people buy them. I don't know if it's the fact that I used to perform (though I haven't performed publicly in about two years), or that I learned how to find royalty-free music to back me up and splice it together with my own voice using Acid Music.
Ok, you caught me. I'm lying. I know full well why people buy my poetry CDs.
It's because I developed an audience and I market to them well. Big secret right?
But here's the thing I learned - if you sell infoproducts, this is as essential piece of advice that you should tattoo to the inside of your eyelids.
People buy CDs like they're crack, even if it's the exact same material in a book, they'd rather listen than read.
Not everyone is a great writer, so for some low-budget entrepreneurs, ebooks are out.
But everyone can talk -- or get someone else to talk for them. And here’s five reasons why you need to figure out how to have an audio-enabled site today.
1- Visitors love audio. And your site is about them, right?
Right?
Whew! You scared me for a second there.
2 - Audio keeps people on your site longer.
In a recent conference call by the makers of Instant Audio, a discussion was sparked that detailed many of the reasons why visitors stay longer at your site - particularly on your sales pages - when they are Audio-enabled.
3- I’ve got one word for you. Podcasting.
If you run a business that has even the simplest web site, and an audio-enabled computer you widen your audience, perhaps up to one hundred visitors by this time tomorrow.
This is not an exaggeration.
Podcasting is simply a way to incorporate audio and other types of media into RSS Feeds. Any browser on the Net can then find out about your site in a variety of ways, not just as a one-time visitor, but as a subscriber to your feed. Every time you updated the feed, your subscribers get an automatic notification.
This is more efficient than email marketing - and although ezines and other email communications have not gone the way of the dinosaur, not having an RSS Feed from your site is like being a television network station with only one show.
And once that show is over, they won’t be back. Web users return to sites because they are reminded, or because they remember on their own.
When was the last time you looked at your bookmarks? And if you remember to go to a site on your own, it was probably because they have frequent updates, to check your email or to search for a site.
With an audio-enabled feed, you are taking care of all these issues in one shot.
•Update frequently with news, tips or editorials that are relevant to your audience and they’ll be back to read what you have to say.
•Search Engines love sites with feeds. It meets their needs of finding fresh, keyword specific information.
•With audio, even if your visitor surfs away from your site, your voice is still with them and they’ll start tuning in to your “station” the way they would with traditional broadcasts.
If you put together a podcast feed, whether it’s a quick tips daily show that lasts five minutes, or a weekly half-hour audio show coupled with shorter text-based updates, you are giving your site an air of distinction.
But don’t listen to me.
Listen to USA Today. They recently ran a front page story on Podcasting and its growing popularity. Online, you can look up a different article at Wired.com.
So how do you get yourself properly feed-enabled?
That’s a little more complex - but starting out can be as easy as filling out a few forms and making a phone call.
First, go to Blogger.com and start a free account.
Next, go to AudioBlogger.com and start another free account. It will be linked to your Blogger Account.
Go back to Blogger, and turn your site feed on under settings.
Call the number you got from audio blogger from any phone - even a cell phone.
Get the URL of your feed and go to FeedBurner.com . Start an account by pasting your feed into the space provided and make sure the Smart Cast option is turned on.
In less than an hour, you’re on your way to becoming a Podcaster. There's much more to it that that, and this method has its limitations, but it's more than enough to begin to become familiar with the basics.
Now, that was easy, wasn’t it? There’s more free information about this on my site at http://www.freetraffictip.com/audiofeed . Or if you’re brand new to RSS, take the free intro course at www.helpmerss.com .
