Dale King Interviews Shelley Lowery

Dale King: Today, I'm interviewing respected internet marketing guru, Shelley Lowery. Hello Shelley, how are you?

Shelley Lowery: Hello, Dale. I'm doing just great, thank you.

Dale King: Shelley, tell my readers how you got started marketing on the Internet.

Shelley Lowery: Well, to make a long story short, prior to starting my Internet business, I worked in a steel plant on a steel rolling mill.

I was single with children, so I needed the type of income that this dangerous, blue-collar position provided.

After ten years with this company, while loading a 3,000 lb. coil of steel onto my machine, the brake on the crane malfunctioned. The coil struck me in the shoulder and dislocated it backwards. After two surgeries, and months of rehabilitation, the doctors determined that my shoulder was
beyond repair.

I was off work for over a year, lost my house, my car and then the doctors informed me that I couldn't go back to my job. That's when my life dramatically changed.

Although the doctors said that I would never have a functional shoulder, I just couldn't accept that. It was a long and difficult process, but little by little I regained the use of my shoulder. I took a temporary job cleaning
houses and scraped enough money together to buy my first computer.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Dale King: Wow...that's quite a story! Shelley,  some internet marketing experts advise newbies to steer clear of certains areas of internet marketing,. For example, selling e-books on how to make money, advertising services, SEO services, copywriting, etc., because those particular niches are deemed to be "too competitive." Do you agree with that assessment?

Shelley Lowery: Steer clear of certain areas of Internet marketing? That's crazy! There are thousands of untapped niche markets with very little or no competition!

The Internet has already made many new millionaires and there is still plenty of room for many more.

Dale King: How is Internet marketing different now, as opposed to when you first got started online?

Shelley Lowery: Many of the marketing methods I used when I first started out are no longer effective, such as placing classified ads and free for alls.

However, there are many newer marketing methods, such as article and pay-per-click marketing that have been very effective.

This is a prime example as to why it is so important to keep up with the latest marketing trends and try new strategies. A great way to keep up is by subscribing to ezines and visiting blogs and forums.

In addition, there are also some new and very exciting ways to make a lot of money on the Internet, such as Google AdSense.

Dale King: How important has goal-setting been to your overall success?

Shelley Lowery: Goal setting has been an extremely important part of my success. Without goals, there would be nothing to strive for and nothing to work toward.

Dale King: How important has reading been to your overall success?

Shelley Lowery: As I am completely self-taught, reading and researching on the Internet has played a major role in my success. There is free information available on just about every imaginable subject. It's simply a matter of taking the time to research, read and educate yourself.

Dale King: In your opinion, what technology has changed internet marketing the most over the last 5 years?

Shelley Lowery: I would have to say the Pay-Per-Click Search Engines. This technology has enabled Internet marketers to obtain instant, highly targeted traffic to their sites simply by paying a specific amount for each visitor.

Dale King: What new technology do you see changing internet marketing over the next 5 years?

Shelley Lowery: I believe we're going to see a lot more use of video in Internet marketing. As technology advances, and more and more Internet marketers realize the marketing potential, I believe the use of video in marketing will increase considerably.

For example, many software companies are now using video to give their potential customers a virtual tour of their software. This technology enables them to show their potential customers some of their software's best features and literally lead them by the hand to purchase their product.

Dale King: If you could give my readers one piece of advice, what would it be?

Shelley Lowery: Collecting your visitors' email addresses should be one of your top priorities.

Start collecting email addresses the moment you put your site up. Developing a list of targeted potential customers is an absolute must.

Dale King: Thank you very much Shelley. I appreciate you taking the time to do this interview.

Shelley Lowery: You're very welcome, Dale. It was my pleasure.
